Nicknamed the "Galapagos of Africa," the Udzungwa Mountains are a range of ancient, biologically unique rainforest-covered peaks holding an extraordinary concentration of species found nowhere else on Earth.
Unlike Tanzania's savannah parks, Udzungwa is explored on foot along forest trails, with hikes ranging from a couple of hours to multi-day treks culminating at the 170-meter Sanje Waterfall.
The park is a magnet for primate enthusiasts, home to endemic species like the Sanje mangabey and Udzungwa red colobus, alongside excellent birdwatching.
June to October, the dry season, for the most comfortable hiking conditions on forest trails.
